The Girl Scout Leadership Experience
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) empowers girls
and gender-expansive youth who identify with the girl experience to develop essential life skills, leadership
qualities, and a strong sense of community. Through hands-on learning activities,
outdoor adventures, and service projects, Girl Scouts gain confidence,
resilience, and a commitment to making a positive impact. The GSLE continues its
relevance as it equips young people with the skills needed to navigate an
evolving world, fostering leadership, teamwork, and a sense of civic responsibility.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is built on four key pillars: STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills and Entrepreneurship. By focusing on collaborative, youth-led programming, the GSLE reinforces teamwork, risk-taking, and critical thinking.
Did you know that Washington state ranks 24th in the nation in overall girl
wellbeing, 40th in youth mental health, and in the bottom 20% for
gender pay equity? In addition, female CEOs account for less than 5% of Fortune
500 companies and women occupy just 12% of C-suite positions. There is still
much work to be done.
And Girl Scouts is doing that work today! Girl Scouts outperform their non-Girl Scout peers across
five behaviors essential to effective leadership: Strong sense of self, positive
values, healthy relationships, challenge-seeking, and community problem-solving.
Alumnae statistics show that 53% of female CEOs and business leaders, 80% of
tech leaders, 76% of U.S. senators, and virtually all female astronauts were
Girl Scouts. This highlights the enduring impact of the GSLE in shaping leaders
across various fields. By supporting Girl Scouts, you're contributing to a
legacy of empowerment and leadership excellence.
