Healthy Camps Keep Programs Accessible
To keep our camp programs accessible and affordable, our camp programs run at a deficit and do not generate enough revenue to balance their true costs. Currently, our program fees cover program personnel and program supplies, but do not cover costs related to ongoing property maintenance.
Currently, we don't have the revenues to offset camp at their current operational costs. This means our camp properties are susceptible to economic swings such as recessions or natural disasters. But together, we can invest in our camps today and protect them for tomorrow.
Charitable donations allow us to fill funding gaps, rebuild our camper numbers, and maintain our properties in a fiscally responsible manner. For example, when we can make repairs and replace equipment at the time issues arise, we will pay the lowest cost in supplies and labor. When deferred, those costs can quickly balloon, and what was a $1 repair becomes $4 in the future. Reliable income streams support proper planning to keep camps healthy and safe to serve our campers, families, and alums year-round.
As we rebuild our camp programs, we anticipate our program fees growing, but even in our healthiest years, camp fees covered less than 60% of total camp expenses. Community investment will remain a necessary funding stream to support camp programs now and into the future.
