Leader of Distinction Awards
Girl Scouts of Western Washington presents three Leaders of Distinction Awards to those who represent outstanding achievement in their field of endeavor and whose achievements are supportive of the Girl Scout mission. Awards are presented to leaders and companies who represent a diversity of race, age, occupation, and endeavor. We are still accepting nominations for the 2023 Class of Leaders of Distinction.
The Leader of Distinction Award honors a leader who brings tremendous value to our community and recognizes their lifetime achievements as a business, community, and civic leader dedicated to supporting opportunities for gender equity and societal improvement.
The Rising Star Award honors a young, emerging leader who is just getting started on their leadership achievements. They reflect the Girl Scouts' mission of leading with courage, confidence, and character and is already an inspiration to young people in the community.
The Advancing Equity Company Award is a company or organization that has demonstrated a proven commitment to promoting the advancement of women and gender expansive adults in the workplace.
Leaders of Distinction Award Criteria
The Leaders of Distinction Awards are presented to individuals and companies who:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Girl Scout mission of building girls and gender expansive youth of courage, confidence, and character who make their world a better place.
- Exhibit strong leadership qualities and have made a positive impact on their organizations or communities. They inspire and motivate others, effectively communicate their vision, and can influence and bring about positive change.
- Advocate for positive social change that helps close the leadership gap and create a more equitable society.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity in their professional and personal conduct. They are respected for their honesty, transparency, and accountability.
- Commit to helping women, girls and gender expansive youth achieve their goals.
- Work collaboratively with others, foster teamwork, and build strong relationships. They value diversity, promote inclusivity, and can bring people together to achieve common goals.
- Reinforce policies, practices, attitudes, and/or actions that are intended to produce equitable outcomes for all.
- Give back to the community through their time.
